Have you ever wanted to kill yourself? Have you ever found yourself in such a deep negative space that dying really felt like the only way to truly end your suffering? If so, you are not alone. In fact, thousands of people all around the world experience these kind of thoughts on a regular basis, but the biggest problem is that many of them feel like they are the only ones who feel the way that they do, and thus believe that no one understands or knows how to help them with their suffering.
This is the story of a girl who felt alone. It is also the story of another girl who felt misunderstood. Collectively, it is the story of two girls who wanted very badly to end their lives, and unfortunately, one of them did.
This story can be categorized as one that is bittersweet in nature. Albeit, it is definitely more bitter than it is sweet, and I pray it is not as painful for you to read as it is for me to write. It is bitter because it is the story of a girl who tragically committed suicide, and another girl who watched as it happened. It is sweet because it is also the story of a girl who overcame depression despite all odds, and is sitting quietly in a Barnes and Nobles today writing a story to try and save other people’s lives.
If you gain anything from reading this, I hope it is that you are never alone in how feel, for I can guarantee that somewhere out in the world someone has felt or feels the exact same way you are feeling right now. I also hope that this story will encourage you to endure past the pain and realize that death is never the only solution to end your suffering. I could not save my friend, but I am hoping that through her story I can touch the lives of many people who are just like her. Happy, smart, outgoing people on the surface who hide a whole world of
pain underneath. And then maybe, just maybe, I can save you.
